needed ,I have just had my gas boiler serviced and have been advised to think of replacing it,it is 15yr but I thought I would get longer my plumber has kept it going for the last 4yr, I have been reading about the green deal scheme from the government but as per not too sure, has any one dealt with the scheme or know if its a good choice,i did read it ends this month so if I am going to go for it I have to decide soon,i got a shock at how much a new boiler will cost, dorothy.

I have not dealt with the green scheme so cannot comment on but generally any discount has got to be good news. Just be careful that the supplier doesn't mark up the boiler to give THEM the benefit. You can double check that by getting comparable quotes. At 15 yrs old your boiler has done well (10 years is about average) but will not be working efficiently and your fuel bills will be higher as a result. You could save 20% or more on your fuel bills with a new boiler, which needs to be taken into account when considering the cost. (Although that doesn't make the upfront cost any the less frightening.)

Do you have any kind of service plan with say British Gas? Because if you do you might get a discount that way too? Generally though I think you will find that a good local plumber and heating company will do as good if not better a deal. It's what we did a couple of years ago.

thanks paul it helps to have another view on things,I have now looked at this green deal in depth on british gas,etc and it ends up about 1,500 more on the pay up way over 10yr which if I have read it right is how it works and if I move home it stays with the house not me personally,i will have to chat to my guy and hope he has suggestion,i have used him for years so fingers crossed, and you are right my bill was nearly £300 last one so could be the boiler, any help/advice is good, cheers, hope you feel ok today, dorothy
